Innovative technologies allow for environmentally friendly compaction
For many years now, Hamm has been developing efficient machines that steadily reduce fuel consumption. In an effort to make construction site operations more resource-efficient, the ECO mode and the Power Hybrid roller in the HD+ series, for example, marked milestones. With eight electrified tandem rollers in the HD CompactLine Hamm is now entering the segment for fully electrical construction machines.
The proportion of projects for which clients are demanding low-emission or zero-emission construction machinery is increasing worldwide. With the new fully electric tandem rollers in the HD CompactLine series from Hamm, construction companies can meet this requirement. This is ensured by a maintenance-free Li-ion battery with a capacity of approx. 23 kWh and optimal energy yield. Another advantage: The new electrified tandem rollers hold no surprises for users; their operation is identical to diesel-powered models. The compaction power is also at the same level.
A technically lean solution increases efficiency: Power Hybrid rollers from Hamm can temporarily provide up to 20 kW in addition to the diesel power unit. This means that an engine that provides 55.4 kW of power is sufficient in the HD+ 90i PH instead of the 85 kW power unit in the standard HD+ 90i model.
With the 9 t HD+ 90i PH tandem roller, Hamm has been offering a tandem roller with Power Hybrid drive from as far back as 2016, meaning that Hamm was the first provider in this segment to develop a hybrid technology and bring it to market maturity. This significantly reduces fuel consumption by approx. 15% – without compromising on compaction power. How it works: While the diesel engine provides the base load, the hydraulic accumulator covers the peak loads, such as start-up or activation of vibration or oscillation, by providing an additional 20 kW for a short time. After this maximal load has been generated, the hydraulic accumulator is recharged via a pump.
In the current series with diesel engines, Hamm has continuously optimised the power train and designed it for operation at reduced speeds. As a result, operators save fuel every day. Most of the Hamm rollers that are currently on the market can be run as an admixture or entirely with alternative fuels, such as Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO).
