Good design delivers quality and safety
Innovative machine technology combined with functional yet modern design form an integral element of the design and development phase at Hamm. This has been recognised through numerous design and innovation awards over the past 30 years. The compaction specialists have now added to their product design accolades with the addition of the iF Design Award for the HC CompactLine series and the German Design Award Special Mention for compactors of the HC 110(i)–HC 250(i) series.

At Hamm, thoughtful design and intelligent shaping are not an end in and of themselves, rather they are intended to deliver the best possible user friendliness, safety and, in turn, machine efficiency. Together with the innovative technologies found in every Hamm roller, they are fundamental to high-quality compaction.
Highly regarded design experts have been bowled over by the ergonomic and functional concepts and have consequently decorated Hamm rollers with multiple prizes. For example: Ergonomic design – as is found in the Easy Drive operating concept – make operation even easier, clearer and safer. The operators have great freedom of movement for any situation as well as an unrestricted view of the operator’s platform and their surroundings. Switches and buttons can be internationally understood and are clearly arranged, the vibration and sound levels are extremely low by virtue of the noise-dampening design. Digital products such as the Smart Doc app have been designed for simplicity and clarity in collaboration with communication designers, whilst the materials have been carefully selected with a focus on sustainable solutions.
Award winners again: The small compactors in the HC CompactLine series – the HC 50i and HC 70i – were each awarded the iF Design Award 2024.
The iF Design Award is one of the world’s most acclaimed design competitions, honouring exceptional design achievements across various fields of discipline. Hamm has already received the award not once but ten times, and now it is the turn of the small compactors of the HC CompactLine series – HC 50i and HC 70i – to be recognised with an award in the product design category. The 5 to 7 t models were chosen by international design experts following a rigorous two-stage selection process. Criteria being assessed by judges included shaping and design details as well as comfort and user friendliness.
The small compactors have established themselves in markets with the EPA Tier 4f/ EU Stage V exhaust emission standards and are available with a choice of smooth or padfoot drums and with split drums. Their multiple drum variants, easy-to-operate design, good accessibility for servicing and the many options make them ideally suited to rental.

Award for the HC 110(i)–HC 250(i) compactors: The 11 to 25 t models receive the coveted “Special Mention” for notable achievement in the field of design. The internationally recognised German Design Award is one of the most coveted prizes on the design scene and recognises exceptional product design, communication design and architecture. The compactors impressed the judging panel of international experts with their inspired platform design, quiet and ecological operation, innovative cab design and high level of user friendliness.

In action, the compactors deliver an impressive compaction performance. Thanks to their intuitive operation, high level of driving comfort and environmentally friendly operation, they are suitable for virtually every operation within earthworks.
Good to know:
1999 was the first year a design prize was awarded to a roller anywhere in the world – and it went to Hamm. The HD series articulated tandem rollers were the recipients of that accolade: The new machine frame and drum suspension design gave operators a complete view of the entire drum and the water-sprinkling system for the first time. Plus, the cab had a rotating and sliding driver's seat – a feature that has since become the norm among all roller manufacturers.
In the years since that world first, Hamm has been presented with in excess of 40 internationally recognised design and innovation awards for groundbreaking products and developments, which is testament to its trend-setting role within the sector. “All these international design awards serve as confirmation from independent external experts that our visions and concepts are taking us in the right direction as a construction machinery manufacturer,” explains Dr Stefan Klumpp, Chief Executive at Hamm AG..
