Working under difficult conditions

Five plant trains with a total of 15 Kleemann machines

An entirely new approach for the commissioning of mobile crushing and screening plants and the provision of operator training.

Remote areas, political crises – it’s not always easy for us to assist our customers around the globe when it comes to the commissioning of machines and training their operating personnel on the ground. This is why we developed an entirely new approach to it for a major project in Ukraine. 15 mobile crushing and screening plants from Kleemann have been at work here since summer 2024. The plants are playing a key role here in a variety of reconstruction projects.

A total of five large plant trains began their work in Ukraine in August and September 2024: Firstly, three trains comprising a MOBICAT MC 110 EVO2 mobile jaw crusher, a MOBIREX MR 110 EVO2 mobile impact crusher and an MOBISCREEN MSC 953 EVO mobile screening plant. And secondly, two trains comprising a MOBICAT MC 120 PRO mobile jaw crusher, a MOBIREX MR 130 EVO2 mobile impact crusher and an MOBISCREEN MSC 953 EVO mobile screening plant.

Challenging feed material

Consisting of unsorted rubble mixed with the remains of furniture, plastics and textiles, the feed material the crushing and screening plants have to cope with presents a number of challenges. The rubble is processed to produce high-quality recycling material for reconstruction projects and the improvement of local infrastructure.

Challenge number 1:
Commissioning the plants

The commissioning of the plants, the instructions for which were provided entirely in virtual space, presented a particular task in itself – a challenge and a completely new terrain that were mastered thanks to factors such as the user-friendly plant operating options. Here, the SPECTIVE operating concept proved to be decisive. ‘The intuitive handling played an invaluable role in helping us to make commissioning and subsequent operator training efficient and easy to understand,’ explains Angelos Morfoyannis, Application Engineer at Kleemann.

Angelos Morfoyannis was able to contribute his professional expertise, for example on optimum set up and maintenance, but also on dealing with mixed rubble with a high proportion of reinforcement — a frequent problem, considering the region and the circumstances. ‘Thanks to the digital options available to us, good planning, and close exchange with our service technician on the ground, we were able to provide helpful support despite the physical separation,’ says Angelos Morfoyannis.

Challenge number 2:
operator training

The training of the Ukrainian operators was a masterpiece of logistics. The training team replicated the plants commissioned shortly before in Ukraine in a hall at the Kleemann factory in Göppingen to enable remote operator training by video conferencing. In addition, a container fitted out with all the necessary IT equipment was set up for training purposes on the site in Ukraine. All content was transmitted live and translated into Ukrainian with bilingual support.

In this way, the users were given a comprehensive overview of the special features, the operating concept and the maintenance of the plants.
