Smart solutions for asphalt paving

New automatic functions and digital construction site monitoring from Vögele

Precise, fast and safe paving, digital documentation: At Bauma 2025, Joseph Vögele AG will be showcasing the automatic steering and width control system AutoTrac, the Smart Pave digital control system, the digital Wirtgen Group Performance Tracker Paving, and the RoadScan temperature measurement system.

AutoTrac: Control based on physical references

To make life easier for users, increase work safety and boost efficiency, Vögele automates numerous control functions of the dash 5 generation. At Bauma, the market leader for road pavers is therefore presenting the AutoTrac automatic steering and width control system. Using various sensors and physical references, users can automatically control width and direction. In addition to the Steering Control automated steering control, the fixed screed width and the Edge Control stringline follower, the new Edge Detection edge follower is also one of the AutoTrac solutions. It automatically controls the screed width based on an edge. Among other things, the associated laser sensor recognises kerbs, gutters or cut edges with a profile of at least 2 cm and uses them as a reference. This creates a precisely fitting edge that saves material. It also reduces the workload of screed operators.

Smart Pave: Control using virtual references

With the world première of Smart Pave, Vögele is introducing the next level of automation: The integrated system controls the pave width, position and direction of the paver fully automatically using virtual references. Smart Pave uses installation geometries that have been stored in the digital platform, John Deere Operations Center™. After an automatic plausibility check, the data can be easily transferred to the road paver. The StarFiredual antenna system from John Deere is permanently installed on the canopy, determines the exact position of the paver and ensures high-precision control. "Smart Pave is an extremely user-friendly solution with a big impact," says Bastian Fleischer, Head of Product Management at Vögele. "All hardware components are integrated into the road paver, so users don't have to do any assembly work. Data handling is simple, transparent and leads to the desired result thanks to automatic error analysis." The automated control system saves time-consuming marking work, reduces the workload for users, increases the safety of screed operators and process safety during paving. Smart Pave is particularly suitable for the construction of rural and national roads and motorways.

Digital construction site documentation with WPT Paving

With the new solution Wirtgen Group Performance Tracker (WPT) Paving, Vögele also enables precise paving and construction site documentation. The system uses basic paving data such as section length, layer width, layer thickness and material density to calculate the amount of material already laid. Material deliveries can be recorded quickly and easily and additional relevant data such as CO₂ emissions and fuel consumption can be mapped. As with Smart Pave and all digital solutions from Wirtgen Group, the central platform is John Deere Operations Center™: Installers and operators can call up the data there and efficiently network, coordinate and analyse work steps. In combination with WPT Milling and WPT Compacting, you can document and view the entire milling, paving and compacting process.

New temperature measuring system RoadScan

In order to document installation temperatures even more comprehensively and precisely, Vögele has also developed the new RoadScan temperature measurement system especially for the dash 5 generation. The measuring width of the temperature sensor has been increased by 3 metres to up to 13 metres compared to the previous model, with better resolution. As the new RoadScan utilities the StarFiredual antenna system from WPT Paving, an additional GPSreceiver is no longer required. For this reason, the housing accommodates only the sensor and is significantly smaller, lighter and easier to mount.
