Stackers in a quarry

The experts for building site logistics

The strategic use of mobile stackers makes work sequences considerably more efficient – and thus more economic and sustainable.

Powerful machines, a high product quality, an excellent team – a lot of things contribute to high productivity on building sites or in quarries. What must be included in this list in all circumstances is well-thought-out logistics. This is often underestimated, although it makes a decisive difference when efficiency and thus cost-effectiveness and sustainability are required. Stackers are important players when it comes to the optimisation of work sequences. Their use permits a significant reduction in material movement with the wheel loader. This can have lower costs tremendously and, incidentally, is also good for the environment.

A practical example

Graphic without stacker

In the first case, the wheel loader – with high operating costs – is practically non-stop in operation. At the same time, wait times can almost certainly be expected, for example, because there is not enough time for loading the lorries.

Graphic with stacker

Quite different in the diagram with stacker. In this case, the driver has sufficient time for loading. As the stockpile in this example only has to be cleared every 12 hours, the wheel loader operator has sufficient time to take over other tasks on the building site or in the quarry.

More safety on building sites

In many cases, the targeted use of stackers can completely eliminate the need for a wheel loader. On the one hand, this increases safety on the building site: Less traffic also means there are fewer danger sources. On the other hand, this saving is a decisive cost factor. The operating costs of a stacker are considerably lower than a wheel loader – and the conveying capacity is usually higher.

Economic advantage

It should not be overlooked that a stacker usually only needs to be switched on and off; this is in contrast to a wheel loader, which does not work without an operator. Every wheel loader operating hour saved by using a stacker saves money in many ways:

  • Lower diesel fuel consumption
  • Lower maintenance costs
  • Lower investment costs
  • Hardly any personnel costs

Ideal for special applications

In addition to the much greater stockpile heights, mobile stackers can also be used to bridge large height differences or obstacles. Material transport to the next crushing or screening stage or for tipping onto the stockpile, can thus be realised easily via stackers.

When processing sensitive material, such as pumice, experience has shown that the use of stackers also conserves the material. To retain the high product quality, after the screening process the pumice stone is usually conveyed directly via a stacker onto the final stockpile. Tipping with a wheel loader would cause unnecessary damage to the material.

It is therefore definitely worthwhile to keep reviewing work processes and to integrate planning work in building site logistics.

Good quality pays off

The mobile Kleemann stackers MOBIBELT are ideal for increasing efficiency on building sites or in quarries. They achieve high discharge heights, which results in impressively high stockpiles. The mobile stackers also impress with short set-up times, high feed capacities and a very robust design. The relatively light conveyors are easy to transport and quickly ready for operation. They guarantee lean material movement and score points with lower acquisition and operating costs, low fuel consumption and reduced maintenance requirements. The bottom line is that they make building sites as flexible and economical as possible.
