On Tuesday, 11 April 2017, BENNINGHOVEN celebrated the laying of the cornerstone for the worldwide largest and most modern factory for the manufacturing of asphalt mixing plants in Wittlich Wengerohr.
After not even one year of planning, BENNINGHOVEN GmbH & Co. KG broke ground for the construction of the new main factory on 31 August 2016. The specialist for asphalt mixing plants will move into the new production site in Wittlich as early as summer 2018.
This project is the largest single investment in the history of the WIRTGEN GROUP (approx. 130 million euros) and is a clear commitment to Germany as a production location, to the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, to the region and also to the town of Wittlich. The new plant is a logical and necessary step in strengthening the company’s competitive position at a global level. The current production capacity is no longer able to meet the growing demand.
The WIRTGEN GROUP is investing in a completely new plant at the Wittlich site to cope with the increasing volume of orders, with the long-term perspective and the objective of making BENNINGHOVEN a globally leading company.
BENNINGHOVEN celebrated the laying of the cornerstone for the new factory in Wittlich Wengerohr on 11 April 2017. This started work for the second construction phase – the actual building. Despite the poor weather during the first months of 2017, BENNINGHOVEN maintains the completion date in the summer of 2018.
The time capsule made by the company trainees contains contemporary items for future generations, such as a certificate, current brochures, construction plans and the current issue of the daily newspaper “Tierischer Volksfreund”. The sealed capsule was then lowered into the foundation in a festive ceremony.
The aim is to establish a state-of-the-art factory, i.e. starting with the very latest production systems, featuring lean management concepts and technologies within the context of Industry 4.0, with particular emphasis on workplace quality, ranging from the installation of ergonomic workstations in all areas to modern ventilation systems, natural light and many other aspects.
A 60,000 m² production facility and a 12,000 m² administrative building on five floors are being built on the 330,000 m² site. The generous capacities of the new main factory perfectly accommodate the component dimensions of the asphalt mixing plants, which are up to 50 m tall. The growth-oriented company has already included possible expansion phases in the planning.
BENNINGHOVEN has been a specialist for the manufacturing of asphalt mixing plants for over 50 years. The manufacturer with a long tradition sets great store by quality and innovation. Whether standard designs or individual customer requests – BENNINGHOVEN can offer a suitable plant solution for any market requirement.
70 per cent of the underground work has been completed. An essential part of this was to create level, strong surfaces for the 60,000 m² production and logistics workshop, the 12,000 m² central building with offices and the traffic routes. The plot was completely remodelled for this.
The height difference had initially been 9 m. To even this out, around 400,000 m³ of soil had to be removed in one area and re-introduced in other locations. Currently, work on the foundation for the central building has already begun. The first building sections will become visible in the next months.
