Patching work is now a thing of the past – even small surfaces can be repaired quickly and cost-effectively with professional road construction equipment.
Small-scale repairs are an everyday part of road construction and landscape contracting. Small milling machines are particularly suitable for professionally repairing roads, bike paths, and sidewalks in order to keep them in good condition over a long period of time. This is a more cost-effective alternative to patching, which may be quick to complete, but is really only a temporary solution.
The ability to turn quickly in extremely confined spaces is a big advantage of small milling machines, especially when milling around manhole covers.
Typical applications for small milling machines include spot repairs and connection work on small to medium-sized roads and paths, milling around road installations, or removing road markings. In these types of jobs, even small machines like Wirtgen’s W 35 Ri, W 50 Ri, and W 60 Ri achieve high daily production rates. And this is true not only when rapidly removing surface layers or milling out several layers simultaneously. Small milling machines such as the W 120 Ri even perform well when removing complete asphalt pavements up to a maximum of 30 cm thick and across a maximum width of 1.2 m.
The wheeled machines’ high travel speed of up to 12 km/h also makes it possible to complete jobs particularly quickly. As a result, the small milling machines – which are designed to be used by a single operator – are a key factor in the success of road construction and landscape contracting projects.
When pivoted in, the right rear wheel makes precise milling along obstacles such as curbs and walls possible.
The small milling machines’ FCS quick-change milling drum system opens up an even wider range of applications and ensures that the machines can always be used to full capacity. This system makes it possible to switch out the milling drum quickly and easily for a drum with a different working width and tool spacing. As such, in addition to standard milling applications, a single small milling machine can be used extremely flexibly for fine milling work, to mill water gutters or, thanks to a specially developed cutting wheel, to mill slots during trenching.
With a powerful cold milling machine and a specially designed deep milling unit with a narrow cutting wheel, Wirtgen offers a cost-effective solution for laying broadband cables.
Thanks to the small milling machines’ outstanding maneuverability on tight job sites, many operations can be completed quickly and easily. The front axle’s large turning angle results in a minimal radius when milling around manhole covers or gas valves. Furthermore, the rear support wheel on the right side can easily be swiveled in and out to improve side clearance. This field-proven component makes it possible to precisely mill along obstacles such as walls or traffic islands as well as tight curves.
The ability to reliably load the milled material – whether onto a truck, into a wheel loader bucket, or when depositing the material to the side – plays a key role in ensuring that small surface repair jobs are carried out smoothly. For high-performance material transport, Wirtgen small milling machines’ discharge conveyor is equipped with high, robust belt cleats. Wide conveyor swing angles of up to 60° to both the right and left make it possible to easily load milled material, even in difficult job site situations. A hydraulic folding conveyor belt ensures that the discharge conveyor can be folded up and transported quickly and easily to the next site.
The low net weight of the small milling machines in combination with variable additional weights makes a high operating weight, ideal traction, and/or smooth and easy transport possible, depending on the requirements.
The Mini Class encompasses VÖGELE’s small and efficient pavers designed for both the rehabilitation and construction of bicycle paths, sidewalks, rural roads, small streets, parking lots, and sports fields. They fill sewer trenches, pave surfaces in industrial facilities or underground parking garages, and are used in gardening and landscaping.
View Mini ClassThe articulated tandem rollers in the HD CompactLine series, with operating weights of between 1.4 and 4.5 t, are extremely versatile machines ideal for use in road and path construction as well as landscaping.
