A W 120 Fi in Berlin demonstrates its versatility and outstanding performance and the high level of comfort offered by its fully-enclosed operator’s cabin.
The work schedule of milling contractor Enrico Feind’s milling crew called for the deployment of the company’s W 120 Fi on two construction sites on the same day – in the center and on the outskirts of Berlin. The company operates an extensive fleet of over 30 state-of-the-art milling machines from Wirtgen and can offer exactly the right machine for every construction project. By preference, the experienced milling services provider deploys the W 120 Fi on projects in sensitive urban locations. The machine unites maximum performance, versatility, maneuverability, and low-vibration working with outstanding operator-comfort, and completed both jobs in the shortest possible time.
The W 120 Fi is a big favorite of the milling crews at Feind. With good reason – the Comfort Cabin reduces fatigue and makes the operator’s work much more comfortable. The fully-enclosed cabin provides a workplace in line with the latest ergonomic standards, provides protection against the weather and noise emissions, and keeps dust and dirt out of the operator’s workspace. The advantages of the state-of-the-art operator’s platform of the W 120 Fi also ideally played out their strengths on the two project sites in Berlin.
“Our company has a whole fleet of Wirtgen cold milling machines, but we always look forward to working with the W 120 Fi with the fully-enclosed operator’s cabin. It makes our job so much easier and more comfortable, and significantly reduces stress and fatigue in our tough everyday work on construction sites.”
Michal Mrozinski, Machine Operator at Feind
The outstanding maneuverability and compact dimensions of the W 120 Fi make it the ideal choice for milling applications on inner-city sites. Particularly at the first job of the day, close to Potsdamer Platz, where the milling crew had to work in an extremely tight space: The street is narrow and runs between office blocks and over an underground parking garage. Due to this tricky situation, the removal of two layers by milling required a very delicate touch. Thanks to its combination of a high-powered engine and low weight, the W 120 Fi is exactly the right machine for a job like this. Thanks to its environmentally friendly engine technology and smart assistance systems, it was the ideal choice for the precise, cost-efficient, and sustainable realization of the milling project. In automatic mode, the innovative MILL ASSIST machine control system optimizes the milling process by consistently selecting the most favorable balance between performance and cost. The result: improved machine performance, high efficiency, lower fuel consumption per ton of milled material, and a significant reduction of CO₂ emissions.
Immediately after the city-center job in Berlin-Mitte, the machine was loaded up for the 30 km trip to the next job – this time in Marienfelde, on the outskirts of Berlin. Two such different construction sites on the same day are no problem at all for the powerful and efficient W 120 Fi. The highly-maneuverable machine is extremely productive, easy to transport from site to site, and can be quickly reconfigured for a wide range of milling tasks. The job was completed in around one and a half hours.
