Efficient and flexible production in an andesite quarry in Indonesia
In Tanjung Enim, Indonesia, the company PT. Bukit Asam Tbk. places its trust in the efficiency of the Kleemann plants MOBICAT MC 120 PRO and MOBISCREEN MSS 802 EVO. One of the largest state-owned quarry enterprises in Indonesia wants to make a contribution to sustainable and environmentally friendly production using future-oriented technology.
PT. Bukit Asam Tbk. operates a state-managed lignite mine in which the Kleemann plant train, comprising a jaw crusher and scalping screen, does not crush coal but rather andesite. The crushed material is mainly used to reconstruct the mine's dilapidated roads and to build new roads within the mine. A major challenge for mining is the location of the material at several sites within the mine and the frequent blasting. These two factors make flexible relocation of the plant necessary. The mobile Kleemann machines provide the flexibility to meet these requirements. ”The possibility of easy relocation of the machines was a very important criterion for us”, explains Aditya Maulana Bainal from PT.
Andesite is a very hard and resistant volcanic rock that is used as gravel or chippings in road and rail construction and as an aggregate for concrete and asphalt production.

A team comprising the mobile jaw crusher MOBICAT MC 120 PRO in combination with the mobile scalping screen MSS 802 EVO is designed to maximize production in the quarry. The former is used as a primary crusher, while the mobile scalping screen is installed downstream and screens the material. ”The machines are ideally suited to our needs and enable us to adapt production to changing conditions and requirements,” says the sales engineer from PT. Bukit Asam Tbk.
The first results at the site show that the flexible plants from Kleemann allow the andesite rock to be processed smoothly and efficiently. The machines also cope well with the special requirements of the material.
A look into the future:
Both machines are configured such that they can be operated using an external power supply. The infrastructure for this is to be implemented in the near future. Until this time, the company benefits from the lower fuel consumption of the plant. ”The option of running the machines on electricity is a step forward in terms of sustainability. But when we run the machines on diesel, consumption is also really very low,” stresses Aditya Maulana Bainal.
The numerous well thought-out details of the MC 120 PRO increase the efficiency even more. The hopper extension, for example, makes it possible to load larger volumes and increases the hopper volume from 10 to 13 cubic meters. The hopper can be folded conveniently via remote control from the ground. The feed material is screened effectively by the independently vibrating double-deck prescreen. In this way, fine material is guided past the crushing chamber and discharged via the side discharge conveyor. This can also be folded hydraulically and can remain on the machine during transportation. The rock chisel, another option with which the jaw crusher is equipped, can crush very large boulders in the feed material directly at the machine before they enter the crusher. Material bridging in the transition from the prescreen to the crusher can be easily removed. Another advantage: The rock chisel can also remain on the machine during transportation.
The efficiency, flexibility and sustainability of the Kleemann plants are one thing. The other decisive success factor, however, was the intensive support offered by the Kleemann Service team. Kleemann Service technician Alfred Hinterhofer spent two weeks on the work site to instruct those involved. Both theoretical training and practical applications and test runs took place. Approximately 40 government representatives were present, who kept a close eye on compliance with the contractual conditions. Alfred Hinterhofer was impressed by the mine and the large number of training participants. “It was a successful operation and we are delighted that our Kleemann plants can support another customer in their work.”
