New SUPER 1800-5(i) with clever automatic functions, increased comfort, and optimized drive
Joseph Vögele AG has integrated its most sought-after model in the “Dash 5” generation: Just like all of the road pavers from the latest generation, the SUPER 1800-5(i) also combines user-friendliness, automation, efficiency, and sustainability. With pave widths between 2.55 and 10 meters, a high performance, and compact dimensions, the Universal Class representative is the most versatile Vögele paver.
At a length of 6.15 m, the SUPER 1800-5(i) is pretty compact for its class and is suitable for pave widths between 2.55 m and 10 m used for the paving of inner city areas and freeways. Its broad range of applications, engine output of 129 kW, and laydown rate of 700 t/h connects the Universal Class paver with the new “Dash 5” technologies. This includes the ErgoPlus 5 operating concept, new assistance and automatic systems, improved material management, a sustainable drive concept, additional comfort features, and a new lighting solution. “The SUPER 1800-5(i) is two steps ahead of its “Dash 3” predecessor,” explains Bastian Fleischer, a Vögele Product Manager. “We have significantly improved the user-friendliness, sustainability, efficiency, and automation of the new paver generation.”
The ErgoPlus 5 operating concept illustrates that the main focus is the user: In comparison to the “Dash 3” variant, the paver operator’s console provides an improved overview, increased comfort, an ergonomic design, and meets all of the requirements for interconnected road construction. Vögele has simplified the operation of individual functions, improved the design, reduced the amount of headroom in favor of legroom, and has integrated additional storage options for smartphones, for example. Thanks to the smartwheel, the SUPER 1800-5(i) can also be fine-tuned more accurately than its predecessor. Users can monitor and operate existing and future digital solutions comfortably via the optional “Premium Touch” touch display.
The Paver Access Control (PAC) function and Light Package Plus also increase comfort, efficiency, and safety levels. The PAC enables users to place the SUPER 1800-5(i) into operation from the ground at the touch of a button. All of the initial steps are controlled safely and comfortably via the operating unit positioned on the screed. The Light Package Plus option increases safety and reduces setup times when working on construction sites at night. The LED spotlights are integrated in the roof structure ensuring the optimum illumination of the entire operating width of the paver and screed area.
The SUPER 1800-5(i) also supports users with additional assistance and automatic functions: Niveltronic Plus Assist automates the installation of hardtop and transverse pavement profiles. Users simply specify the gradient of a target point and the machine ensures the even approach to this value. Users no longer have to gradually adjust the gradient by hand, thus ensuring a continuous installation result especially on changing profiles. In conjunction with the new Edge Control feature, the screed width can also be controlled automatically along a tensioned wire. The automatic screed width feature also ensures that the screed side without a tensioned wire is retracted and extended accordingly thus ensuring that the pave width remains consistent.
In addition to the new functions, the SUPER 1800-5(i) stands out for its lower fuel consumption and reduced CO₂ and noise emissions. Vögele has revised the drive concept to achieve this: The new 4-cylinder motor uses significantly less fuel while offering the same output. This is predominantly down to the optimized Vögele EcoPlus low-emissions package. In particular the speed-controlled fan has been optimized in such a way that it calculates the speed even more accurately and together with other measures once again significantly reduces noise emissions.
The revised control of the material transport also makes a significant contribution to reducing the fuel consumption and increasing efficiency. The auger and conveyors now communicate with one another, ensuring that the material feed is even more consistent and precisely coordinated. This avoids load peaks, saves fuel, enables an optimum head of mix, and thus ensures uninterrupted paving. The optionally available Power Tunnel additionally ensures an optimum material height in front of the screed. Retraction and extension of the hydraulically retractable limiting plates for the auger tunnel can be controlled together with the screed width adjustment.
The new Vögele paver achieves optimum precompaction when combined with “Dash 5” extending screeds AB 500 and AB 600 or rigid screed plate SB 300. The hydraulic tamper stroke setting ensures a high level of paving quality and shorter setup times. The Dual Power Shift Tamper enables operators to simply set the tamper stroke at the touch of a button. In comparison to the mechanical adjustment, this saves a considerable amount of time and is particularly practical if the layer thickness changes. A new installation aid for the screed widths and the efficient heating of the compacting systems also reduce the setup times. Vögele has also significantly reduced noise levels by optimizing the construction measures.
