The Benninghoven REVOC system is an advanced technology that gives plant operators the ability to achieve higher recycled material feed rates while complying with stricter limits on emissions.
The patented technology supplements existing cold- and hot-feed recycling systems in asphalt mixing plants, and reduces total carbon emissions (VOC) when feeding recycled material by up to 50%. Specified limit values are complied with.
Regulations on emission limits are being tightened up in many regions worldwide. Achieving compliance with these regulations is a challenge faced by plant operators when producing asphalt with recycled materials.
As soon as recycled material has to be added to the mixing process, complying with the limits set for total carbon (TC) from the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the mix becomes a complex task. These VOCs are more potent greenhouse gases than CO₂ and are also hazardous to health at higher concentrations. Going forward, these emissions must be reduced as far as possible, to ensure existing asphalt mixing plants can stay in business and keep their operating permits.
Most importantly of all, the REVOC system can help to secure the future of asphalt mixing plants. This is because its benefits – in terms of efficiency, added recycling material, and emissions behavior – allow plant owners to maintain their core business in the future.
Especially considering the ever-more restrictive regulatory requirements, the REVOC system is the economical option for worry-free operation.
The BENNINGHOVEN REVOC system is an integrated process system. To reduce emissions while complying with standards and administrative regulations such as the German TA-Luft, the entire process must be considered: the burner, fuel, recycling feed systems, dedusting system, dryer drum dimensions, and REVOC system itself
Emission values can only meet or even exceed the required standards only if these factors are perfectly coordinated technically, and the plant is run expertly and with the targets in mind.
First, exhaust gases are actively extracted directly where they are generated, primarily from the mixer in the asphalt mixing plant – where heated mineral, the recycling material, and the bitumen come together to be mixed into fresh asphalt. The vapors, with their high VOC concentrations, are routed to the REVOC system for thermal post-treatment.
The energy that is generated for drying and heating the virgin mineral (primary function) is also used by the REVOC system to burn off the VOCs/total carbon (secondary function). This makes operation of this innovation extremely energy efficient.
Working more efficiently with sustainable and economical technologies is the challenge of today and tomorrow. Benninghoven offers a variety of innovative solutions for increasing sustainability in asphalt production.
