The VÖGELE variable mechanical grade sensor can be combined in many ways. It can be equipped with 12 in, 3 ft 3 in and 6 ft 7 in (30 cm, 1 m and 2 m) skis for referencing from ground.
Use of the 3 ft 3 in and 6 ft 7 in (1 m or 2 m) ski is recommended to even out minor irregularities in the reference. In the event of major irregularities, combining with an averaging beam is useful.
For highly accurate paving along a stringline, the variable mechanical grade sensor can also be fitted with a bow. Scanning on a stringline is a method used primarily where no suitable reference is available, or in cases where the client expressly requests a stringline. Highly precise paving results can be achieved using a combination of a stringline and the variable mechanical grade sensor, as the sensor features a high degree of measuring accuracy with tolerances of just ± 0.02 in (± 0.5 mm).
