High-quality in-place cold recycling

  • Machines from the CR series are used as part of a paving train for cost-effective, in-place cold recycling of road pavements in a single pass by adding cement, water and/or bitumen emulsion, or foamed bitumen at a mixing performance of up to 800 t/h
  • The high-performance W 240 CR i with rear loading and working width of 2,350 mm is ideally suitable for renovation of road pavements in confined construction site conditions and can also be easily transported as a unit
  • Lateral pre-milling also enables the cold recyclers to flexibly rehabilitate road surfaces with widths greater than the machine’s working width in a single pass.
  • If required, cold recyclers can also be used as high-performance milling machines or for the granulation of pavement structures.

Cold recycling with CR model series

The robust milling and mixing rotor granulates the damaged asphalt pavement. The granulated material is mixed with injected binders and water in the mixing chamber, thus creating a new homogeneous mix in an in-situ process.

If the CR is equipped with a built-in paving screed, the mix is conveyed towards the centre as a result of the helical design of the milling and mixing rotor and subsequently transported to the paving unit via the primary conveyor. The spreading auger distributes the material evenly ahead of the variable paving screed which then paves it true to grade and slope.

When cold recycling with integrated rear loading, the recycled mix is subsequently transported to the material hopper of the asphalt paver via the conveyor system comprising primary and discharge conveyor. The asphalt paver then paves the material true to grade and slope.

Mixing procedures

Cold recycling can be achieved either in-plant by hauling material recovered from an existing road to a central depot where it is fed through a mixing unit, or in-place using a recycling machine.

When mixing in-place / in-situ, a cold recycler granulates the existing pavement while mixing in binders and water homogeneously at the same time.

When mixing in-plant, reclaimed asphalt pavement and crushed stone are transported to a mixing plant located in the vicinity of the construction site.
